The Miracle of the Atonement

This is a picture of my Mom with her three siblings. (my mom is in the flag sweater). On Saturday, my little family along with my Mom and Dad went to Arizona to see my Uncle Del and his girlfriend, Patricia be married and baptized. For my uncle this was a re baptism. (He is the one with the whitest hair). He is my favorite Uncle. I love him dearly. I spent a summer with him sailing through the San Juan Islands. We had a blast. He is a returned missionary and a former bishop. He just let his life get away from him. He was excommunicated about 10 years ago. This was a very difficult thing for me to watch. I have always looked up to my Uncle and it is hard to see someone you love let go of something that you know brings peace and happiness. I tried my best to make sure he knew that I loved him but I hated the decisions he was making. Well, after a long hard road my uncle was ready to again embrace the truths that he has always known. It was a very humbling experience to watch him enter the waters of baptism with my Uncle Milt and recommit himself to Christ and his everlasting gospel. He talked to us about how he feels like he is understanding the fullness of the gospel and the Atonement of Jesus Christ for the first time. He also talked about how our Heavenly Father doesn't have THE plan of Happiness but A plan of Happiness. It is a personalized plan for each of us. The end goal is the same, to live eternally with God, Jesus Christ and our families but each of our paths to get there are very different. I know that our Father is mindful of our different strengths and weaknesses and he knows some of us will have more difficulty than others. That is why he gave us a Savior in Jesus Christ so we can all overcome our weaknesses and be made perfect through him. I am so thankful for the Atonement of Jesus Christ. It truly is a miracle to feel that cleansing power in our lives. I know that it is a real power and that as we draw near to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ they will draw near to us. I am so thankful for the gospel in my life as I try each day to raise happy, righteous children. I am so happy for and proud of my Uncle Del. I love him and it is so nice to have him back.
