911 (for real this time)

My sister in law is visiting and we really wanted to see my friend Emily's new house.  It is a beautiful house and Emily was nice enough to let us come over in the midst of her moving chaos.  The kids were with us and they were in heaven because the house has a huge garage.  They were riding bikes and scooter all over the place.  So thinking they would be just fine (silly me) we went and explored the rest of the house.  When we were just finishing up one of the kids came and told us that Lauryn and Clara were stuck in the elevator.  Yes, that is right her house has an elevator.

This is the door to the elevator where Lauryn and Clara were stuck.  They were in there for about a total of 20 minutes.  It seemed a lot longer to me.  We tried everything we could think of to get them out.  We yelled to them to push buttons and there was just nothing happening.  A few minutes in they got scared and started crying and freaking out a bit.  I told them to hug each other, say a prayer and then sing some songs.  They calmed right down.  After a few minutes we realized we needed some help.  Emily had only lived in the home for about 2 days so she had never had this problem with the elevator.  The previous owner didn't leave any keys but Emily's sister in law was able to find a manual.  It told us to use the key.  HMMM!  It was time to call in the big guns.
And come they did...A few paramedics and firefighters showed up.  There were probably 6-8 of them total.  They actually have an elevator kit.  In the kit were about 20 different elevator keys.  Apparantly this happens often.  I was just relieved to know it wasn't my girls that had caused the elevator to malfunction.
It took them a total of about 30 seconds and they had the girls out.
The girls were very calm.  They hugged me for a long time but didn't seem to be too distraught.  Cameron on the other hand was sure he was never going to see his sisters again.  He told the fireman "You heroes are the reason I have been reunited with my sisters!"
After trying to be really inconspicuous the fireman finally asked Emily for a tour.  She was kind enough to oblige.
And what do you do with a bunch of rowdy little kids who have just experienced a 911 call?  You take them for a ride in your firetruck of course.  How many kids actually get to go for a ride in a firetruck?  The kids were in heaven.  I must say for the record since the number of this firetruck is now recorded in my blog, these were THE nicest fireman I have ever met  (Not that I know a bunch of firemen or anything).

Thanks Emily for letting us come see your house, breaking in your elevator and taking up all of your unpacking time.  You are a true friend.  I already miss you tons.
