Spring break part 1

For Spring Break this year I was feeling the need to take the kids to the beach. We did a stay cation last year and it wasn't super fun so we hopped in the car and headed to Newport.  We were planning to only stay one night but I was kept up by drunk spring breakers. I only got about 2 hours of sleep so I decided it would be safest to stay an extra night and get better sleep before driving home.  I'm glad we were at the beach.
The water was freezing but the kids don't seem to care.
We walked out to the end of the jetty.

The kids loved the spray that got them wet at the end of the rocks and the crabs that came in with the water.
One of our beach traditions is dinner at Ruby's diner.  We went to the one at the end of Balboa pier. We sat on the top.  It was a little cold but we were able to sit right under a heater.  We saw a family of about 5 dolphins swim by about 25 yards away.  We watched them for a while.

playing in the sand at night.

My favorite thing about the beach is the kids play for hours without fighting while I read a book.

this face says it all...

I am not kidding when I say the water was FREEZING. I was bundled up in a sweatshirt.  I got in the water but I couldn't last very long.  When we go back in August I will swim with them. (:

I love that my kids are old enough to go places easily.  They travel great.  They are always up for an adventure and they are total troopers when things don't go exactly the way we plan.  They have fun no matter where we are.  I think they get this from their Dad.  I think I was probably a wimp when the water was cold.  I probably complained.  They don't they just go swimming anyway.  I am also grateful that Dave works hard and has a good job so that I can stay home (or go to the beach) and play with my kids.  He can't always come with us and we miss him but I am so glad he lets me play with them.  I love my little family.  I would never want to be with anyone but them.

Looks like so much fun! I can't wait till it's warm enough to go to the beach here.
