We need to talk for a little bit about Cameron. So Cameron turned SIXTEEN. I cannot even wrap my head around how that is possible but....he keeps telling me its not a mistake. He is about the best 16 year old a mom could ever hope for. He makes good choices. He has an enormous heart. He loves people especially his friends from our stake. I don't have to worry about what he is doing when he goes out. He is strong and very brave. He has overcome much in his life. I don't think he has a clue how much he has conquered. I look back at all the things I was told and sometimes believed he would never do and he has crushed EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. This kid is a rock star. I am honored and humbled to be his mom. He has been begging to go to Oregon because it is the only western state he hasn't been to so for his birthday he got a trip to Oregon with his favorite person on the planet...ME. (I know I am his favorite he just won't admit it) Man I love this guy.
I wanted to have some kind of gathering for his birthday but I wasn't really sure what to do. So....I stole a bunch of phone numbers off of his phone and I texted all the names I recognized and invited them to come over. Well....Cameron got really sick. I know...so sad. So....I had to text all those people back and tell them. I was so thrilled when some of those cute friends came over anyway. Cameron has been surrounded by really good kids who love him and I am super grateful for that. It needs to be mentioned that exactly 2 boys showed up and about a million (OK maybe 20) girls showed up. I don't blame them. He's a cutie.
I told you he was sick.
but not too sick to flex on all of us.
Cameron also had a huge spring in that he did his eagle project. I totally and completely understand why they give a mother's pin but because this post is all about Cameron I am not going to say anything else about that.
Clara and Shelby
It was so amazing to see all of the people who came to help and show support to Cameron early on a Saturday morning.Even the little guys like one of our favorites, Jonny Coupe came out to help.
Sister Jennifer Bennion is our Relief Society president
Kevin Nebeker a former member of the ward and our dear friend. The kids call him Uncle Kevin.
How cute is Lauryn? I know... she is freaking adorable.
remember how I told you Jonny was a favorite? Well...look at that face.
Look at these awesome young men
Cameron did a fantastic job of directing the troops. I was seriously so impressed with the ownership he showed over this project. He is growing up nicely and it makes my momma heart proud.
His project was at his old (and the girls current) elementary school. The courtyard has been a little bit barren so he built garden boxes. We put sprinklers in them and then filled them with dirt and planted herbs. Then we put peat gravel all around the boxes. It looked so nice and clean and made a huge improvement to the courtyard. The garden club will harvest the herbs and sell them at their little farmer's market. It was such a blessing for Cameron to be able to do service for a place that was so good to him.
It was not easy work hauling and dumping dirt and rocks. This is Nick Bulgatz.
Brother Bennion, one of Dave's counselors.
This is Liz Adams. She came for the pizza. She's a smart girl. We love her and she is another favorite of ours. She spends most Sundays on our bench and nothing could make us happier.
Cameron is blessed to have this guy as his dad. Dave teaches Cameron by his example. He helped Cameron figure out what materials he would need and he supported him in his efforts to lead this whole project.
We laid plastic down the hallway of the school to protect the carpet.
This is Delicia Coupe talking to the principal, Mr. Hudzick.
Mr. Hudzick is one our families favorite humans. He has had a huge impact on all three of our children. We count him as one of our biggest blessings. We will miss him next year but we are determined to keep in touch.
Before the Saturday morning project Dave, Cameron and the girls built the garden boxes.
The girls were thrilled to learn to use the saw, the drill and the nail gun. I am little nervous about this new knowledge.
safety first
I loved watching these three work together on this. They were all engaged and had so much fun together.
