Spring Break in South Carolina

One of our favorite spring break activities is the beach.  For several years the kids and I would spend spring break in Newport Beach, easily a favorite place for us.  Recently we decided we needed to use this week off of school to see different parts of the country and that Dave needed to come with us if he could.  This year we were really needing the beach so we decided to combine the two plus see family.  We have been to SC before and we love it.  Kristin and her family live there so we decided to meet them at the beach.

We had such a great trip.  The kids and I went out a few days early and Dave met us for the second half.  It is fun to travel with kids who are old enough to take care of themselves and it is fun to play with cousins who are old enough to take care of themselves.  This means that Kristin and I were also able to really enjoy ourselves.

 The kids found jellyfish
 and starfish
I am so grateful for the friendships my kids share with their cousins.  I hope they will always be close.  There is something so special about family who are also friends.
Cameron loves the beach.  Seriously...he would probably sleep out there if he weren't certain that crabs would carry him off into the ocean.   Just kidding but maybe they really would...who knows...
I love the difference in the southern beaches from our west coach beaches.
Nothing makes me happier than sand and sea on my feet.  Especially when one of those said feet got sunburned.  Not sure how I missed that spot.
 boogie boarding for days....

and then working on those tans.
building fortresses that get crushed every single time

One night we went into Charleston.  I love Charleston.  It is such a charming city.  There is loads of history here.  The streets are quaint and old and I love it.  These lamps are still lit by gas.
 This moon.....

We stopped for ice cream...of course because that is what you do
We found a few golf courses for Cameron.

This is the oldest tree in the US.  It was awesome.  I wanted to climb it but of course there were signs everywhere telling me to stay out.  How rude.

Isn't it beautiful.  The imagination can run wild in a place like this
I love this guy and I really love it when he joins us on our adventures.
after our time on the coast we drove through a tornado (not joking) back to spend a few days in Columbia.  Kristin and David have just purchased a new home and I was dying to see it.
I believe it was at this golf course that there was an alligator sighting on one of the holes while we were there.  Happy Gilmore anyone???
Dave and I went for a little drive to the Columbia State house.  You can still see where Sherman's army shot cannons at it.

I love the charm of these old southern buildings.

We went to visit the USC football field where the Gamecocks play.
We spent an afternoon strawberry picking.  This is a novelty for our desert kids.

We stopped by the Columbia temple
It will be really fun when Baylie and Jalen can go do baptisms and we can add that to our list
We were there for Easter which was a treat.  We didn't know that we had matching dresses which made these three little ladies very happy.
I am so grateful to be their mom.  They make me a better person every single day.
