Happy Memorial Day

Our favorite thing to do for Memorial Day is go camping at Pine Valley.  We have some friends who invited us to come along when Cameron was about 2 years old and they haven't been able to get rid of us since. (except when the girls were babies and it snowed and the year my nephews came for the weekend) This year Dave was working on the cabin so the kids and I headed up to Pine Valley on our own.  It was very cold and windy.  I tried to talk them into waiting until Sat morning but they would have none of it.  We got there kind of late and pitched the tent and settled in but of course we still had to roast marshmallows so...I built a fire and we burned some marshmallows before going to bed.
The nice people camping next to us had brought along a 3 week old kitty.  The girls were in heaven.  They rode that poor little kitty all over the place in their scooter baskets.  They were pretty sad when the neighbors left.
Dave came Saturday morning in time to take the kids fishing.
I swear one of these times the kids are going to catch a fish with that tire on the end of the cars pole.
Cameron  was very excited to fish with a real hook and bait this year.
Since last year someone (probably the forest service) built a trail that goes around the lake and there are benches all along it.  It is beautiful.  This picture is for my Mom.  She would love this trail. My parents usually come with us and I must say I was REALLY missing them.  I felt a little empty all weekend.
This was the view from our campsite.  Pretty amazing.
Somehow Cameron always finds a way to get his bike all the way down to the lake.  This is not an easy task.  It amazes me.
Dave caught a couple of fish and then realized he had forgotten to get a license.  OOPS!
This is Lauryn's picture of herself.
This is Cameron's first catch.  He was super excited.  I video taped the whole catch but I think it is too long to download on this blog.  He is now hooked (pun intended).  He wanted to fish every minute.
The girls love to "pet" the fish.
Clara was not a happy girl once she realized the fish was going to die and we were going to eat it.  Of course she wanted to keep it for a pet.
I just discovered these pictures when I went to download pictures.  This is a photo that Lauryn took of Clara.
This is a picture that Clara took of Lauryn.  My girls are so shy.
All snuggled in for a warm nights sleep.  We put them in the same bag and they hardly moved all night long.
This is Cameron on the trail to the Mormon massacre site.  This is kind of a morbid place to visit.  Definitely not our best moment in church history.  It is a place that makes you think about how intense the emotions of the early saints must have been.  They were persecuted for so many years that I think they were over defensive.
The best thing about camping...marshmallows for breakfast of course.
